Fabled Massachusetts's 54th Regiment: A Lecture by Shawn Quigley

  • Parker Hill Library Branch 1497 Tremont Street Boston, MA, 02120 United States (map)

It wasn’t that long ago when Shawn Quigley of the National Park Service came to the Branch and led a forceful presentation on the seafaring version of The Underground Railroad with tremendous roots in our City of Boston. This month of February , Shawn will visit the Parker Hill Branch again to tell us about another great moment in American History.

He will discuss the fabled 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment, one of the first Black regiments to serve in the U.S. Civil War. Men from the city, state, country and even other nations travelled to Boston to join this historic regiment, which heroically, but tragically, took part in the crucial assault on Battery Wagner, South Carolina in July 1863. The lecture date and time: Saturday, February 10 at 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the branch’s Lecture Hall. Registration is appreciated.
